SELPHY CP330

Canon releases new PictBridge compatible compact photo printer, the fully mobile, battery-powered CP-330. The latest addition to Canon's direct printing range, both printers connect directly to any PictBridge compatible camera — regardless of brand — for immediate, borderless colour photo prints within 85 seconds* and with the same look, feel and durability as traditional silver halide prints.

The CP-330 has a rechargeable battery, allowing for printing on the move. It also supports irDA wireless for printing JPEG images from selected irOBEX and irMC compatible mobile camera-phones. Both printers are small enough to slide into a desk draw but with designer styling to compliment any home environment.

Direct printing, without the PC

Printing direct from digital cameras and without the need for a PC is now extremely simple. As soon as the printer connects to any PictBridge compatible camera, the camera and printer do a 'hand-shake' to identify each other. A print menu displays on the camera's LCD screen, from which the user selects print options, such as print style, size and quantity. An LED on the printer's cover glows to indicate that the print process has begun. On the CP-330 this changes colour as each different ink colour is printed. Canon’s latest range of PowerShot and Digital IXUS cameras are all PictBridge compatible, and for owners of earlier model Canon digital cameras, both printers are also compatible with Canon's Direct Print printing standard.

One-step printing

The new Print/Share button on many of Canon's new range of digital cameras makes the print process even easier. As soon as the printer connects to any Canon camera with this feature, a blue light on the camera's Print/Share button lights up. Pressing the button causes the camera's current image to print automatically, in the correct format to match the paper loaded.

Quality and durability

This printer uses a dye sublimation print process to produce high gloss prints with extremely smooth tonal gradation and outstanding durability. Heat applied to specially coated paper during the print process opens pores in the paper that absorb the different layers of gaseous ink. The pores close when the paper cools, sealing the printed image within the paper's surface. A special high-gloss UV resistant protective coating further adds to the print's quality and longevity.

Print choices

This printer offers a choice of borderless print sizes: the enduring and popular 10x15 cm post card size (which is available in a 36 prints or a new 108 prints value pack size), L size, credit-card size, and mini-stickers. A new 10cm x 20cm long media is also available for printing 'stitched' panorama images from a computer, or printing with space for writing a message. Dye sublimation printers use a solid rather than liquid ink, so changing paper and colour cartridges is quick, simple and exceptionally clean, with no messy ink tanks. Paper and colour cartridges with exactly the right quantity of ink are sold together, eliminating the frustration of running out of ink before running out of paper.

Extras and accessories

The printer comes with easy to use software for connection to Windows and Mac systems. The Software links the new owner to membership of Canon's web portal CANON iMAGE GATEWAY, generally reserved for Canon digital camera and camcorder owners. CANON iMAGE GATEWAY provides members with 100MB of free online album space for storing and sharing favorite photographs and albums — a form of private online photo gallery.

Optional car battery adapters are available for this printer to both power the printer and recharge the CP-330's battery.
